welcome back everyone to pontos fathom hobbies today is our evangelion unit zero build this is the dx transport platform model so it's got the uh original unit one uh along with the stand that they used when they launched during the neon genesis and evangelion so this is part of our series of evangelion i built a unit a couple of unit zeros in my last few videos you can check in the link but we're basically uh this is the big release for evangelion 3.0 plus 1.0 so i've been doing these evangelion builds and i built the unit zero uh two times i built it once with the blue and the ones with the golden color as you can see i'm gonna do unit one now and then i'll also be working on um uh asaku's model and uh followed up by mari's model i will do a model build of uh i'm picking up mark six and then also the new evangelion coming out this december on pre-order which looks awesome so uh i also got the i've got a couple of figures i picked up
that didn't have bases so since this is a evangelion unit zero one with the base i'm thinking i'm gonna try to build some just quick bases for uh this asica and this ray uh just kind of pack something together to get them on the shelf but uh that'll be fun just to get some figures to go with these evangelions and then i'll uh i'll also be doing my build through in the next video of of asakus uh ava so um i'm gonna actually use these bottle caps so we'll see how it turns out but yeah just doing something quick and easy instead of buying something i'll just do some crafting here
i would really like to make this interactive with you guys so please leave comments below um we'll get started here unpacking the box and building the model uh what would be great for you guys to like and subscribe below and check out our links for patreon help to support this channel i'm not sponsored by anyone so your support really helps whether that's a like a subscriber share ringing the bell joining us on the conversation in patreon or even checking out some of our books we have for sale at our second channel pontus fathom press so these rg models as you guys know for evangelion are quite cool just even the components are well organized
i really like the model design of the unit zeros and i'm just kind of going through this to build full all the evangelion units also we'll be doing some custom putting a light bulb inside of one of the unit zeros the future project so that'll be cool i'm using um skull color and you can see the three paints i'll zoom in on those in a little bit as usual instruction manuals are very awesome they are very gratifying to build and uh unit zero doesn't have the
mod modifications to the shoulders uh that i mean sorry unit one has just the single shoulder build if you check out the unit zeros they have um they had two variants so because i built it twice you see the the golden one has the rounded shoulder and the blue one has the uh the winged shoulder so uh the unit one is has a similar wing shoulder where you have the uh the knife storage up at the top so we'll check that out in the build if you haven't checked out the builds for these two unit zeros they're my first builds so you can check out the videos below that would also be great and you can see all the custom paint and repaint i did i painted the first one the blue one first so it's a i had to repaint it actually i didn't like my paint job like i was mentioning there was a great studio g video with a light being installed in the unit zero so guys leave a comment below if you've built if you've modded this i want to uh put that light bulb you can see how the sunlight catches the eye but i'll put the light bulb into this i'll do an install about that in a future video i'm also going to make it so that the light bulb will the light bulb will be inside the head but i'll use the back plug of the ava unit well actually i will fabricate a plug so when you actually plug in plug that will power down to a base and the battery base will be in the base unit so that'll be a cool project fabrication project so so uh ring the bell and i'll notify you guys when that's when that comes online you can also check back to our blog i've got pantos that
pontosfathomhobby.blogspot.com you can see the link below and you can see all the blogging in one place of of our videos so that'll that'll help you out and as usual check out pontusfalum.com okay so first of all i've got the um
skull color gray this is a surface gray it's a primer i'm not sure if i'm going to use that for this build but then i've got this green very neon green it's called green flow or fluorescent floor flow so this is a quite bright and i thought it would really pop on the unit one so we'll give that a try i've done some test painting with it before it does dry very matte so you have to be careful with it otherwise it can chip very easily and then i picked up these two i've got a just a plain eyeball this violet purple color which sort of seems like the evangelion unit one color if you can see this i mean it's pretty out of the bottle pretty good match so instead of mixing i just went with that but then i also picked up this candy coat style um violet uh with some metallic inside of it that i'll use to to catch some light on it i really kind of like when other builds i've seen people do the custom paint and have the have the light catching some metallic flecks in the paint so try that out okay so we're ready to get going
what i'm going to do is get these
prepped by color i'm going to spray these first coats right on the frames
again i'm going to use the this metallic color for the purples and i'm going to use aluminum for the undercoat and then i'm going to use the green flow for uh for the green pieces i'm not sure if i'll use a primer coat with the violet something like that okay so uh i am going to get ready the airbrush and get ready to paint the airbrush as you guys know um i'm not super great at the airbrush yet so i'm still learning it but uh i think i will order these in a way that i can um minimize having to clean through so i'm gonna airbrush each color by each frame now as you guys are going to see here the video is jumping because i had the compressor right next to the tripod so as you see my so i've cut this very short it's kind of a new blue but but yeah so just quickly i sprayed through these and if you take a look the green flow comes out pretty good it's very bright the the violet with the metallic also looks very good it's got a nice shine to it and obviously the aluminum is always a it was always good i i will go go over the base with with gunmetal i'll do that later in the video but i just want to get the the main uh the main ava painted up so we can start assembling so i've cleaned up the air the airbrush and now i'm going to go through and cut the cut and clean up all the all the components
this time i'm trying to build it by number like i see a lot of people cutting all of their components off first i tend to get confused a bit if i do it that way unless i label them all it's just very time consuming so i'm trying this way this build i actually prefer to have them all spray painted in on on the on the um
using the clips i think that's a better way so and this this is just me trying this one out for for this build i'm trying to save some steps here but i do like to assemble as i cut them i know it's a little slower for the video but i you know i watch i watch some of the pros doing this and they're so good at clipping and cleaning and doing it as an assembly line i just um so you can see the back is starting to come together here and you can already see how the lights catching that purple i'm really happy with so neck is built
let you guys kind of watch some of this build fast forward and i'll see you in a little bit
yeah i find this part of the model building to be the real zen part kind of relaxing the rg instruction manual is a real pleasure to build these models themselves real pleasure to build
like i mentioned before i kind of like to have you know build them off the cut them sand them and do the prep work as i go but maybe in my next video i'll try to do what some of the pro guys are doing where they they clip everything off and then they prep every piece and then they paint every piece i think that's a much more advanced way to do it i just like a delayed gratification maybe or maybe it's just about organization right what do you guys think leave a comment below how do you guys like to build your models do you leave them on do you clip everything and then paint it i'm probably just the only guy doing it this way because i'm a noob but uh anyway leave a comment below i'd love to hear from you guys what's your favorite process i'll go back to building without you know cutting things off and spraying them in the next video so
okay so you can see the body's taking some pretty good form the green and that metallic purple is coming together real well and i used a similar technique on that yellow ava zero these are the colors i used if you want to reference i will be doing a clear coat over them too i think that the green is a little bit too matte and i'm i've noticed it scratches easily so i'm going to get into building the frame again the frame i had it's under under paint underpainted with aluminum color i know that even avas are supposed to be sort of biological underneath but i think it looks kind of cool with the metallic color shining through as opposed to just the stock gray if you guys have built some of the older evangelion models they used to come with a rubber a rubbery sleeve i believe leave a comment below if you've built the old model evangelion uh i think maybe it's the hg's uh i i do see a couple of those out there for sale maybe i'll pick up an old hg one and build it for comparison uh because i i noticed the um the inner system has been advanced these rg inner systems are great i've only built a few gundams but for these evangelions i really enjoy it okay so here i've got the shoulder attachment you can see that that metallic paint is really popping there i've got both the purple and this aluminum as well as that green flow getting that shoulder harness ready
next up we're gonna basically got have all the components in place and we can start to do some assembly uh putting the feet together you've gotta love these builds that they have the the way they've got the color and the articulation are both great arc articulation wise and color selection even without painting is really fantastic i um it's interesting how i'm going more toward the direction of painting them in the style of the paint as opposed to coming up with new color color schemas my two biggest channels that i watch are crafta from japan and he is the master of making just super photo realistic evangelion so i recommend that that's like my guru and my other one is the studio g channel which i think he is the most creative for new palettes so when i did my unit zero with the blue color that was more like my studio g influence and if you see my unit zero with the golden color it's more my crafting and i think this one's following that i also plan to um build the asuka ava using some red metallic cherry coat i've i'll show you that when i build that video but i've already bought the paint so so here is assembly kind of coming together um the neon really pops here and the uh does have a bit of a toy-ish finish so i i think maybe with the ossica build i'll i'll practice doing some texturing to make it look a little less toyish one thing i did run into though is i had a problem with the spine one of the pieces that you can see here in the spine i think i flipped one of the pieces so uh basically what i had to do is disassemble the hips the hip bone kind of and then pull that spine piece out i wasn't able to put one of those back plates in the third vertebrae sort of of the spine so i had to kind of rebuild it and it's weird how that because the posture is so articulated just be really careful when you do your builds make sure that you've got those you see those one two and third spine i think i'll be putting this snapping that on right here once you snap that third spine on here it comes then you'll see how uh yeah but that third spine snap-on was folded underneath so it's like he had his back was messed up so now i've got the hip rebuilt and uh clear enough so now the posturing it will be much better but if you get that wrong you won't be able to get the mobility out of the uh out of the uh out of the ava so be careful when you do your build now here's some close-ups on that metallic i'm quite happy how this turned out it's just catches the light and you've got a little bit of blue in that purple and then you can see i've done a clear coat over this as well uh so the gray is less matte i mean sorry the green is less than that which i think is gives it a bit more of glow kind of kind of like that uh view and you can see the metallic specks being caught both in the aluminum and in the purple violet with the metallic specks and then the green sort of is very even though it's got a gloss coat on it it's still very flat and broad so uh you've got those two different textures at work metallic textures and a flat texture so that really what has a glow to it so that's going to wrap it up for this video i know i didn't get to build the base get the guns built and have the decals put on i'm actually looking at the color the candy coat and i think i want to do a couple other coats of that so i'm going to strip him down and repaint him build the base i also didn't get to build the the bases for rey and asaka so i'll do that in the next video and then as a special treat i've got this um rg evangelion like mod that i want to put on and if you take a look at this gun it's really awesome so i'm going to build that in the next video so let's take a look at the build that we have so far and uh in part two of the video like i said i'll build the base i'll build the base for asakun ray and we'll work on that custom mod with that cool gun i'm also going to do a repaint of the all that purple color you see there so now that i'm looking at it if you guys check it out i want it to have a little bit more metallic in there so i think two or three more light coats will really do the trick so hey guys thanks for watching like and subscribe leave a comment what you think and um uh looking forward to seeing you guys in the next video and celebrating the release of evangelion 3.0 plus 1.0 talk to you soon bye
